The Burrage Mansion

A historic home for a historic mission.

Commissioned in 1901 by Albert Cameron Burrage — a prominent industrialist, attorney, and philanthropist known as the “Copper King” — the mansion was built as a lavish winter holiday home to escape the harsh East Coast weather. At the time of construction, it was the most expensive residence in Redlands.

A stunning example of Mission Revival architecture, the 28-room mansion sits on its original 22-acre lot and features a distinctive “H” shape, hipped red-tile roofs, wide verandas, and two prominent bell towers. Inside, thirteen fireplaces and a Pompeiian reception hall with Italian marble pillars hint at its early grandeur.

From 1934 to 1974 the estate served as “Queen of the Mission” convent. In 2007, it was acquired by the Rochford Foundation, which continues to preserve its architectural splendor while dedicating it to the well-being and happiness of underprivileged children — a mission that aligns perfectly with our own motto of Service Above Self.
